Wednesday seemed like a nice normal day at ZDNet HQ, until all of a sudden in the middle of the afternoon a hush ran through the office.

I looked over to the aisle where the consumer technology journalists live, to see my colleague Randolph Ramsay deep in a phone conversation.

"He's interviewing Skype," confided my next-door neighbour. This sort of reverence for the upstart VoIP vendor is pretty widespread and completely understandable.

After all, Skype is fast becoming the standard for consumer-level VoIP technology.

While I personally am rather cynical about Skype due to its long-term potential to be replaced by a less proprietary standard, this week I feel inclined to join the revolution.

So to all my readers out there who feel the need to get a burning issue off their chest, I'm throwing this particular communications channel open.

In other words, Skype me at "renai42".
