SMS grows for Amber alerts

West Virginia has become the second state to enable SMS messaging for AMBER alerts. Florida was the first.

West Virginia has become the second state to enable SMS messaging for AMBER alerts. Florida was the first. Citizens can sign up to receive AMBER alerts as text messages on their cell phones free of charge. The service, made available by a deal between the state, the Justice Dept. and the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association, makes AMBER alerts available via 12 different carriers.
