Sony brings out new, lighter and faster Vaio S notebooks

Sony's Vaio S laptop series has been getting some updates over the last few months, but now the notebook collection has been revamped with a lighter and more powerful model.

Sony's Vaio S laptop series has been getting some updates over the last few months, but now the notebook collection has been revamped with a lighter and more powerful model.

Still sporting a 13.3-inch display, the new Vaio S weighs 3.8 pounds and hosts up to a 2.70GHz processor with second-gen Intel Core i5/i7 CPU options.

Some of the other big customizable specs available on this machine include:

  • Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
  • Up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM
  • AMD Radeon HD 6630 1GB Hybrid Graphics card
  • Up to 750GB HDD or dual-channel 256GB SSD with RAID 0 technology
  • Blu-ray disc player/burner
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Webcam
  • Memory Stick Duo and SD card slot
  • Connectivity: HDMI out and VGA out
  • Battery life: Up to 7.5 hours

The pre-sale commences today with a starting price of $970, and the Vaio S is outfitted in either black or white magnesium and aluminum casing. There is also an optional sheet battery for $150.
