Sony churns out Vaio EA and EC laptop collections; available for pre-order

Sony has definitely been busy lately, and now they're ready to debut the colorful 14-inch EA and 17.3-inch EC notebook computer collections.

Sony has definitely been busy lately, and now they're ready to debut the colorful 14-inch EA and 17.3-inch EC notebook computer collections.

There are a lot of specs to cover, so here's a rundown of what each Sony laptop series has to offer:

EA Series

  • 14-inch widescreen display (1,366 x 768 resolution)
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
  • Up to 512MB dedicated video RAM
  • Standard capacity battery
  • Weight: 5.2 pounds
  • Dimensions: 13.60- x 1.07- x 9.39-inches

EC Series

  • 17.3-inch widescreen display (1,600 x 900 resolution)
  • Intel HM55 Express Chipset
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 or 5650 GPU
  • Up to 1GB dedicated video RAM
  • Li-ion battery
  • Weight: 7.3 pounds
  • Dimensions: 16.1- x 1.25- x 10.78-inches

There are some options that are the same across the board, including:

  • Intel Core i3 350M processor (or an upgrade to a Core i5 i5-540M CPU)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional OS
  • Up to 8GB of DDR3 memory
  • Up to 500GB of hard drive space
  • CD/DVD drive with optional upgrade to Blu-ray with CD/DVD player or additional upgrade for a Blu-ray burner with CD/DVD drive
  • Bluetooth v2.1+EDR
  • Expansion slots: Memory Stick PRO, ExpressCard, SD
  • Connectivity: Three USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, DC-In, Headphone-out, Microphone-in
  • Maximum battery life: 3.5 hours

Additionally, all E series laptops are available in five colors with a glossy finish (green, blue, white, pink and black) or three colors with a matte finish (brown, silver/white and black). Go nuts.
All of the new Sony laptops mentioned here are available for pre-order now with a July shipment planned (no exact date yet). Starting prices are $769.99 and $819.99 for the EA and EC series, respectively.
