Sony announced today that the new Sony Ericsson W995a unlocked music handset is available for pre-order in the U.S., to land in stores on July 6 for $600.

Sony Ericsson's W995a is a 3G-enabled smartphone that is equipped with Wi-Fi, an 8.1 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) with Walkman player 3.0 and a built-in stereo FM radio.

The phone comes with Sony's Media Go software, allowing users to drag and drop videos, tracks and photos between the phone and a compatible PC. The software will also transcode video and music files, and is the same software that's on Sony's PSP.

In other words, it's best for consumers who are looking for an iPhone alternative but don't need all the whiz-bang-flash of Apple's flagship mobile device. Talk time is up to 9 hours, standby is up to 370 hours and music listening is up to 20 hours on a single charge.

It can be purchased from SonyStyle.com.
