More Than Pet Insurance

British insurance company More Th>n has found a solution for pets that are too fat to walk up and down stairs on their own. One in three British dogs are currently obese, and More Th>n predicts that will rise to 52 percent by the year 2022. Enter Stair of the Dog 2022: a prototype that issues a warning to pet owners and provides a way for pudgy pets to get up and down stairs without putting their hearts in danger.

The high-tech stairlift is modeled after that which humans use, but modified to make it canine-friendly. Equipped with a paw recognition button that activates an electronic retractable platform and a dog-sized basket for pups to sit in during their ride, Stair of the Dog 2022 aims to make the experience enjoyable for the dogs.

According to John Ellenger, Head of MORE TH>N Pet Insurance, this product "is a vision of the future we really don’t want to see become a reality." That might be so, but perhaps the reality is unavoidable: two leading retailers in the UK have already expressed interest in the product.
