Stratus Technologies has released a lower-end version of its "fault tolerant" Windows server, the ftServer 3200, a U.S. version of an NEC server based on Stratus technology. The system employs redundant components to guard against hardware failure and software written to reduce crashes. Prices for the lower-end 3200 begin at $20,442 for a system with dual Pentium III chips. The higher-end 5400, introduced in June but months later than hoped, is a four-processor system with more and faster PCI slots.

Also on Tuesday, Stratus announced a new global reseller program for the ftServer line, with partners including Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Lighthouse, TriTech Software Systems, Brainconsult and others. --Stephen Shankland, Special to ZDNet News
