Sun Microsystems has established its first Asian customer operations center in India, expanding its global managed services capabilities.

Launched last week, the Sun ControlCenter, located in Chennai, caters to some 45 businesses in the Asia-Pacific region. These customers were previously served by Sun's two other managed operations centers, located in the U.S. state of Virginia and Linlithgow, Scotland.

"The addition of a ControlCenter in India will expand Sun's current service delivery capacity to provide high-touch customer service and expertise in line with Sun’s overall service delivery framework, while meeting growing customer demand," said Jeya Kumar, Sun Microsystems' vice president of services for the Asia-Pacific region, in a company statement released last Friday.

The center, supported by about 100 engineers, offers 24/7 services in the area of database administration, server management, Web administration, operating system administration, and networking device monitoring and management.
