Switch between Sense and Google Play experiences on your HTC One

Summary:Paul O'Brien is showing off a beta tool he is developing, MoDaCo.SWITCH, that lets you choose between the Sense or Google Play Edition experience on your HTC One. This is the functionality enthusiasts would love to see out of the box.

My friend Paul O'Brien is a wizard with Android development and his latest project, MoDaCo.SWITCH for the HTC One, looks brilliant. This upcoming solution lets you switch between Sense and Google Play Edition experiences on the HTC One.

Over the years, I have used Paul's excellent kitchen ROM tools that let you completely customize and "bake" your own ROM, but over the last year or two I haven't felt the need to mess with custom ROMs. That looks to be changing with MoDaCo.SWITCH.

I previously wrote how the HTC One is my favorite smartphone ever and that a HTC One without Sense wasn't an HTC One . I still feel that HTC Sense is critical to the One experience, but there are some features of the Google Play Edition I would like to use on my One and I know many people don't like all the functions found in Sense.

As you can see in the video above, MoDaCo.SWITCH lets you choose which experience you want to use while keeping the data associated with apps and services common across both experiences. Even better, this ROM is based on Android 4.2.2 that offers several key improvements , so I may go to this just for these Android improvements.

I understand Paul is trying to develop the tool to the point where a boot is not required and if that happens I will be even more impressed. If this works out for the HTC One, he said he may try doing the same thing for the Galaxy S4.
