Nextra, the ISP subsidiary of Norwegian telco Telenor, opens for business this week in the UK.

Nextra has previously been trading as three different companies - services company Norse Data, ISP CIX and the hosting company XTML. Collectively the company employs 1,000 people in seven offices. Nextra's intention is to offer integrated communications services to businesses across Europe. These will be based on internet access, the sale of software applications on a rental basis, mobile telephony and hosting services, which are already operational in Norway. Nextra currently offers internet access and applications service provider (ASP) operations in the UK. These are now branded 'Login'. ASP applications include PeopleSoft's enterprise resource planning application, available from XTML's Manchester data centre - which has yet to announce its first customer - and Microsoft's Office hosted out of Norway. Login was announced in Germany last week at CeBIT. Hosting for this service will also be in Germany.
