"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading about smart meters and health concerns.

.) Maine High Court sides with smart meter opponents on safety issue. Maine's highest court says the state Public Utilities Commission failed to resolve health and safety concerns when it signed off on Central Maine Power's plan to replace its analog meters with new, high-tech digital devices called smart meters.

.) Letters: Another smart meter view. After the last round of anti-smart meter letters a while back I thought that it had run its course. My mistake. Recently Nina Beety wrote another such letter and committed several logical fallacies.

.) DTE Energy to unveil 'smart meter' opt-out fee next month. DTE Energy Co. says it agrees with the Michigan Public Service Commission's decision last week to allow customers to opt out of its wireless electric meter program amid safety concerns of some users.

.) Are smart meters hazardous to your health? We all need energy to survive. That's just the facts in our modern society. The problem is that producing energy is a dirty business, and actually burning it's even worse.

.) Patton: Wireless smart meters are a health threat. When Wayland Annual Town Meeting last April defeated the $700,000 DPW capital fund line item to install wireless smart meters on every building in town, it was an important victory for citizens.
