THQ buys game developer

Video games publisher THQ announced Wednesday that it has completed its acquisition of game developer Rainbow Studios. Phoenix-based Rainbow is best known for racing games such as the "Motocross Madness" series of PC games published by Microsoft and "ATV Off Road Fury" for Sony's PlayStation 2. "We look forward to leveraging their expertise in creating original action and racing game content, two of the biggest genres in console gaming," Jeff Lapin, chief operating officer for Calabasas Hills, Calif.-based THQ, said in a statement.
