Thursday virus reaches Blighty

The Thursday Word Macro virus is "spreading rapidly" according to anti-virus software firm Network Associates, and now looks set to affect UK users.

The virus, which is activated on December 13, is a macro virus which infects Word 97 documents.

Jack Clark, product manager at Network Associates reports the virus is infecting companies around the UK and Europe. "It began in two financial institutions in the US but within the last hour we have had reports from around four or five companies in Europe and the UK," he said.

Technical director at anti-virus firm Symantec paints a different picture. "We have not been hit. The key to this is making sure you update your anti-virus software," he said.
