Transmeta to float

But will the unconventional chip manufacturer sink or swim?
Written by Will Knight, Contributor

Silicon Valley microprocessor startup Transmeta has revealed it is planning a flotation, appointing Deutsche Banc Alex Brown and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Wednesday to handle the process.

A date has not been set for the IPO. The event is however guaranteed to attract much attention because of the hype that has surrounded Transmeta's unconventional software-based microprocessor technology and the company's claims that it can revolutionise the field of mobile computing.

Transmeta's low-power processors are seen as coming into direct competition with Intel in the laptop PC market.
