UK Government IT budgets will shrink

IT budgets and staff in government IT departments will substantially decrease over the next year, according to a report by Price Waterhouse.

The report, The UK Government IT Survey 1997, shows that 41 per cent of government IT executives expect to see a decrease in their IT budgets in the next year, while 47 per cent expect a decrease in staff.

The report also reveals that despite dwindling resources, there are increasing pressures on IT executives to find and employ new developments to support initiatives such as front office systems and Resource Accounting and Budgeting.

Outsourcing of computer facilities is still seen as having a great impact on the sector while there are still problems meeting time and cost deadlines in delivering systems.
