T-Mobile gambling on punt-hungry consumers

From this week, consumers will be able to use their mobile phones to play the lottery. Not the Lottery, mind – that's on its way next year, according to reports.

T-Mobile and the Mobile Lottery have teamed up to offer punters a chance to gamble £1 for the chance to win up to £1,000 on a selection of games. Users will need a compatible handset, a credit card and to be over the age of 18. Lucky winners will be united with their booty in the form of a cheque sent to their home address.

While T-Mobile subscribers can already get National Lottery results texted to their phone, the launch of the new service comes amid speculation that T-Mobile has stolen a march on Camelot's the National Lottery, now going under the banner the Lotto, which was planning to launch its own lottery mobile gaming in the next few months.

Like its rival, the Mobile Lottery will donate a percentage of gamblers' stake to charity.
