Vodafone dissolves CIO role

Vodafone Australia has announced that it will scrap the chief information officer role following the departure of Andrew Wiles from the position today.

Instead, ZDNet understands Wiles' responsibilities will be absorbed by the company's technology team.

Wiles was brought onto the team in late 2012 under then-CEO Bill Morrow's tenure. Morrow left Vodafone earlier this year to head up NBN Co.

During Wiles' time as CIO, he was responsible for helping the company merge its three brands — 3, Crazy John's, and Vodafone — to a single brand and platform. He also led the move of the company's data centres, created an agile IT environment, and partnered with Amazon Web Services for Vodafone's customer self-service platforms.

"Our IT transformation under Andrew's leadership has been significant and he has led the IT team through a period of change to deliver some great outcomes for our business," a Vodafone spokesperson said. "We wish him all the best with his future endeavours."

Wiles is currently on the hunt for a new job, but there is no confirmation of what his next move will be.

Vodafone is not the only company that has decided to permanently leave the CIO seat empty.

The Australian government announced earlier this month it has also dissolved the role of chief information officer following the departure of Glenn Archer.
