Mobile carrier Vodafone says no job cuts are planned for its Australian staff, despite reported moves to sack up to 6,000 employees globally.

The company has "absolutely no plans" to trim its Australian workforce of over 1,400 permanent employees, a spokesperson for the company told ZDNet Australia today via telephone.

Vodafone chief executive officer Arun Sarin will reportedly soon announce significant losses.

Sarin will reportedly try to curtail the damage by cutting costs, with up to 10 percent of Vodafone's 60,000-strong global workforce to go, in addition to internal restructuring and the outsourcing of some back-office systems.
