Want a subsidized Acer netbook for $99?

I am pretty pleased with my MSI Wind netbook and use it as my main Windows machine at home and on the road. I found it for US$400, after Live Search Cashback credit, and thought it was a great deal. Engadget is reporting that you soon may be able to pick up a $99 netbook that is subsidized by AT&T and comes with wireless broadband. Without the agreement, the Acer Aspire One will cost you US$499.99, which is actually quite high for a 8.9 inch netbook.

The particular model does have 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, and Windows XP home. The Radio Shack ad they posted a photo of shows availability and prices good from 14 December through 20 December.

I personally just connect my netbook to my phones for wireless data access and there are many phones today that have this capability. It is convenient to have this integrated into a laptop device, but the minimum rate plan of US$60/month takes away some of the excitement of the US$99 offer.
