Last week, I took part in a panel discussion on digital content. The forum was organized by Malaysian Debt Ventures, a government agency that helps finance ICT-related projects.

The forum was divided into two segments. The first panel spoke about issues and challenges. The second panel (the one I was on) was supposed to discuss building a roadmap to address these problems.

The forum was very disjointed because there was no clear definition of what digital content means.

For most of the participants, it meant only games and animation.

What about community journalism, podcasts, blogs, mobile content and video streaming? None of these were covered.

I think if Malaysia is serious about becoming a content hub, the various government agencies that are overseeing content development need to broaden their understanding of what constitutes digital content.

To limit it to games and animation is very short-sighted.
