The Other World Computing systems integration and technology assembly facility in Illinois is one of roughly 300 companies to receive a Platinum recognition under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program run by the Green Building Certification Institute.

One of the biggest factors toward that certification was the 194-foot tall wind turbine that will be used to generate the power for the Other World facility. The capacity of the turbine, which can produce an estimated 1,250,000 kilowatt hours per year, is about double of what the facility currently needs to run the operations -- including its data center. The company will sell excess electricity back to the local utility in McHenry County, Illinois.

Other building design features that helped Other World earn its LEED Platinum nod include a geothermal heat pump system, rooftop light-harvesting technology, high-insulation windows and building materials, and smart sensors that adjust energy usage in unused rooms.
