X-Stream, the free Internet service yesterday registered its 20,000th user which, according to the company's sales manager Paul Myers, "puts us on course to be the UK's biggest ISP by the end of the year."

X-Stream, a Canadian company, began business in the UK just over two months ago and provides free Internet access for its customers without email. The company makes money by selling advertising space on its web site, a practice undertaken by the sales team from the search engine, GOD.

Myers, who is also a director of GOD, said the service is taking on more than 400 new people every day. Asked how X-Stream would maintain its quality of service with such enormous growth, Myers pointed to the GOD sales team. "We've got the best sales team in the world, a sales team from GOD and they've sold out of web space for a very long time." He added: "With this rate of growth The X-Stream Network will be larger than newly sold, loss-making Demon within 9 months."

Officials at Demon were not available for comment.
