A trend I am seeing more and more today is that Android apps are launching nearly at the same time as iPhone apps. There are reportedly now over 30,000 apps in the Android Market and I am personally finding a ton to load on my Google Nexus One. I will soon have to root my device though as the internal available memory is filling up and I need to start storing apps on the microSD card. One of the most popular apps on the iPhone launched last night in the Android Market. Zillow is a real estate application that has had over 1 million downloads on the Apple App Store with more than 2 million homes viewed per month. There are 95 million properties in their database.

Zillow for Android is available now for free and I have to admit my wife and I spent about 20 minutes checking out homes in our area and ones that we were thinking of over the last couple of years. Zillow uses GPS to find your location and displays Zestimate values with icons differentiating the type of property you are viewing. You can find homes for sell or rent and even search for homes using voice search on your Android smartphone.

As stated in the press release, specific features of the Zillow Android App include:

  • Zestimate home values, home details and historical data on 95 million U.S. homes – nearly all homes in the country.
  • Dynamic curbside images of homes using Google Street View.
  • Multiple photos, home details, and contact information on homes for sale, for rent or listed as Make Me Move, allowing home shoppers to peek inside home listings and call or email agents, owners and landlords right from the app.
  • Shoppers can filter their home searches by sale price, rental price, number of bedrooms and bathrooms and listing type (for sale, for rent, Make Me Move, and recently sold).
  • Users can search for homes and neighborhoods utilizing voice search – just say an address, neighborhood or city and the Zillow Android App will take you there.

Even if you are not looking to buy a home, it is a fun and free application to try out.
