Visionstream will be responsible for getting Telstra's duct and pipes infrastructure ready for the National Broadband Network (NBN) in Tasmania and Victoria in a deal worth at least AU$90 million.

As part of its AU$11 billion deal with NBN Co, Telstra will lease pit and pipe infrastructure from its legacy copper network to NBN Co over the next 30 years for the NBN. But first Telstra will need to make sure that its infrastructure is up to scratch.

Leightons-owned Visionstream announced today that it will be tasked with the remediation of Telstra's pit and pipe infrastructure in Victoria and Tasmania. The company's general manager, Allan Bradford, said that the deal comes as part of a long partnership with Telstra.

"Visionstream is ideally placed to assist Telstra [to] deliver its commitment to NBN Co," he said. "We understand the importance of getting these works done, and the impact it has on the overall success of the new network.

The contract is worth AU$90 million over three years, with the possibility of an extension for another two years that would bring the worth of the deal to AU$210 million.

Service Stream secured the contract to undertake network remediation for Telstra in Western Australia, South Australia, the Northern Territory, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory.

Visionstream has also secured a deal with Telstra for its wideband network, and is responsible for clearing the backlog of orders for NBN fibre in new housing estates.
