in brief A report this week suggested the Australian operations of financial services specialist Aviva would not renew a key outsourcing contract with Hewlett-Packard when it expired this November.

BRW this week said Aviva would instead bring the more expensive server maintenance parts of the contract in-house, with the service desk support, network and desktop services aspects to be farmed out to several different suppliers.

The report said Aviva spends more than AU$30 million a year on computing and communications, adding the company has built up a team of 25 staff to handle the new in-house server work.
