An official BBC iPlayer app that allows users to stream live television and radio, as well as catch-up on previously aired content is now available to download for BlackBerry devices. Older content will be able accessible for up to seven days after its airing date, according to the listing.

The app is available free of charge and can be downloaded directly to a handset from the BlackBerry App World store.

The software will only work on BlackBerry 5.0 devices (and higher), including the Storm 2, Bold 9700, and Torch 9800 — the only handset in the line-up to use the new BlackBerry 6 operating system natively.

The update is just 11KB in size, suggesting that it is little more than a shortcut to the BBC's web iPlayer service, and requires a Wi-Fi connection to function.

The Bold 9700 is upgradeable to the newer BlackBerry 6 OS but some users on the app's store listing say that it no longer works on their devices under the new OS.

"I loved this app on my 9700 when it was OS5, however since upgrading to OS6 it's a no go," wrote a user by the name of cwolfx.
