Apple store down

The Apple Online Store is currently closed in preparation of today's Let's Rock event which kicks off at 10:00 am PT 1:00 pm ET. It's widely expected that Apple will announce new iPod nanos, touches and iTunes 8 at the event.

MacRumors adds some additional details this morning about nano colors and higher capacities:

iPod Nanos are expected to be size-bumped from the current 4GB/8GB sizes up to 8GB/16GB models. As well, Apple will be introducing 9 different colors for each Nano (up from the current 6 colors). The additional colors are expected to be Purple, Yellow and Orange.

AppleInsider adds new details about the iPod shuffle and an accelerometer in the new "tall" nano:

a new version of the iPod shuffle will be made available in 5 colors... The player will reportedly be the first non-Multi-Touch iPod to sport a motion or orientation sensor... the iPod's 'shuffle' function is invoked when a user physically shakes the player. Another person said the new nano would be capable of determining its orientation and provide a more natural Cover Flow view in landscape mode.

      • The iPod is yesterday's news

Tried a Zune at all Donnieboy, or are you living the high life in the Apple RDF?
        Confused by religion
      • Perhaps. But it's not as if there's not precedent.

Seriously. Did anyone think the Apple store wouldn't go down prior to new products being announced? What is the relevence of the store being unavailable a few hours before an Apple event? What does writing about the store being down tell us? Nothing.

      • What a load of crock

Dude, tired of defending Google's Swiss cheese Chrome browser, their "your data is our data to do with what we please" EULA, why people choose LiMo over Android?

My guess is that both the Zune and iPod are way too cool and exciting for you.

My guess is that you still lug aroung and old Walkman CD player or cassette player.

Maybe that should have been "What a load of crAck..." ;)

any online store that voluntarily shutsdown to do online updates for a full business day doesn't deserve to be in business. updates occur in "off hours" or less busy times not during standard business hours. i guess apple's web team doesn't work in off hours like the rest of the online world? "dude"...that's how microsoft got the marketing edge to begin with.

i'll go buy some other product instead. :)
