In a surprise move Apple today announced that they speed-bumped the original MacBook Pro configurations to 1.83 and 2.0GHz without notice. The faster 2.0GHz MBP's will begin shipping "this week" and the 1.83GHz configurations "next week" according to Apple.

Apple also added a third top-of-the-line 2.16GHz MacBook Pro configuration today that will cost an extra US$300 and will retail for US$2799. The 2.16GHz model is about 4-5 weeks behind to slower configurations according to a PowerPage source.

  • Nice to see

Apple users aren't used to such rapid upgrades in processor
speeds (read IBM & Moto) and an upgrade before the first
production unit has shipped is even more impressive.

    • "See" what?

These things haven't been seen in my part of the world at all. Estimated shipping is 3 to 4 weeks at the Apple store. My local Apple dealer won't have any on the shelf until April - maybe.

No wonder Apple are charging about $500 more than they should for them.

  • But Still no DL support

While I am slightly annoyed that i have to wait longer for my macbook pro I am pleased that it will now be a 2.0 but the lack of DL writing support is still unacceptable.
