Fire burns for three hours at Apple HQ in Cupertino

According to the AP the Santa Clara County Fire Department was called to Apple's compound at One Inifinte Loop at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night to respond to a three-alarm fire. Smoke and flames were reportedly coming from under an air conditioning unit that burned for about an hour. The fire burned the roof and the second level at one of the six buildings and was contained by 12:30 a.m. this morning. No one was injured but there's believed to be a lot of smoke damage.

Update: According to a piece of raw video posted at CBS 5 the fire was at Vally Green 6 building.

Update 2: MacRumors is reporting that the building housed Apple's Information Systems and Technology department, not research and development as originally reported.

  • Witness reported

seeing a fat bald guy in his 50s running from the Apple campus.
When he reached the street and
looked back at the fire, the
    witnesses said he started
    jumping around the street -
    something like a monkey.

Police have reported that they are
    checking Apple's surveillance
cameras in an attempt to identify
    this person.

    • Witness reported a Non-Zealot sighting?

Fat, bald, 50-ish, capers like a monkey, no life except trolling: sounds like we have a perfect match. Pick 'em up, Captain!

    • Old man of about 50?

Most of the early programmers (real hackers-not kids who send viruses or break into systems) are now about 50 to 55. Most of us do not self identify as "old men".

If you must label is, refer to us as your seniors! If that does not work, you may refer to us as your predecessors! :-)

    • New water cooling setup?

I thought you supposed to hook up the water cooling before pushing the power switch. I guess Mac did not have much experience with overclocking.

First responders were baffled to find the entire building staff missing. In other news, Steve Jobs addressed the media today regarding rumors that extended exposure to the 3G iPhone may cause spontanious liquification.
