iMacworld app gets major update in v.1.1
In mid-December iMacworld iPhone app was released – but it was really more of a beta, limited to a simple list of exhibitors by name and by booth number.

IDG and developer Zami.com released iMacworld version 1.1 (iTunes, free) today which is the real deal. It's a major update that includes an interactive floor map and all conference information.

When launched it asks you if you'd like to "load data updates from the server?" It's nice to have the option to load updates from the cloud without having to wait for an updated app to clear the 5-7 day App Store approval process.

The Exhibitor tab gives you an alphabetical list of exhibitors which you can scroll through or you can jump right to the first letter in the company name via the letters down the right hand side. You can also search by booth number and by hall. One thing that's missing is an open text search.

The Products tab allows you to scroll through lists by name, exhibitor and by category and the Sessions tab allows you to locate conference sessions by day, track, room and speaker.

The Messaging feature rounds out tabs across the bottom of the UI and provides updates from IDG about the show and the iPhone. For example, a message that arrived today reads:

Note that the conference session times in the iMacworld app are displayed in your local time.

Heed their advice and check the time zone on your iPhone/iPod touch, if you're not from the west coast already, that is. They can be set to change time zones automatically in Settings > General > Date & Time, or just make sure that you manually change it to Pacific time.

iMacworld 1.1. is an all around fantastic little app the exploits that benefits of having an iPhone or iPod touch. I really would like to see full text searching and a way to bookmark exhibitors, products and sessions, but then again, I want everything.

I can't wait to see how they promote it here at the show. iMacworld is a must have app for anyone attending 'Expo.
