A couple of details have begun to trickle out about iPhone 2.2, the next revision to the iPhone/iPod touch software. According to a piece at AppleInsider, Apple has released beta 1 of firmware 2.2 to developers that features a number of small UI tweaks.

  1. The Google search field in mobile Safari has been moved to the immediate right of the address bar (pictured). Currently you need to tap the address bar to bring up the Google search field.
  2. Apple has also re-organized the App Store slightly with large category icons. They also made the "Tell a Friend" option more prominent and added an equally prominent "Report a Problem" button – presumably to report tethering and flatulence applications that slip through Apple's screening process.

Most surprising is that fact that background push notification is absent in beta 1 builds. The feature was promised for September but was pushed back according to an email purportedly from Steve Jobs that said: "We want to get it 100% right the first time."

Even worse. No copy and paste.

  • What happend with iPhone Software?

I have an iPhone (1st G) and work fine with soft 1.1.4. Until apple started to release updates... 2.0 is not good, 2.0.1 also and I'm stack there...I will not install more updates until I get strong news about how great release they made.

    No More Microsoft Software Ever!
  • Hope they can fix the network sensitivity problem

with software. There is no doubt that my 3G does not find networks as quickly as other phones, and I am not talking about 3G mode. When I have arrived at an airport, and there is a general rush to turn on mobile phones, others are already talking while my iPhone has not yet found the local Edge network (3G turned off).

  • Hope 2.2 is a bit more

Have an iPhone 3G and a Moto Q running 6.1, sorry to
say the Q runs rings around the iphone in simple
things like connectivity, texting and opening apps...

While promised and wanted features would be great,
this thing needs help in the 'speed' department

  • No copy and paste....

No copy and paste. No copy and paste. No copy and paste. No copy and paste. No copy and paste....

The only thing I hear over and over again is No copy and paste. No copy and paste. It's getting really irritating. What the heck is it that people that want to copy and paste so much... Is this a fetish of some sort?

    • "It's not a fetish..."

Is it really asking that much for a feature that was available on my old Handsping PDA I got back in the 90's? Sorry to irritate you, but many people feel that having to retype the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, is irritating.

You like that? I typed "over" once then used CTRL+C to copy, and CTRL+V to paste it over, and over, and over, and over..... Try that on your iPhone!
