iPhone new applications?

While it's already possible to hack your iPhone to listen to Sirius satellite radio, the process is so daunting that it would even scare off Howard Stern. Soon it may be possible to listen to Internet radio natively on iPhone.

The crew at iPhoneology has been busy digging through the iPhone firmware and found some entries that hint at what Widgets may be to come:

  • com.apple.unitconverter
  • com.apple.widget.phonebook
  • com.apple.widget.translation
  • com.apple.widget.worldclock
  • com.apple.mobile.radio

While all of these have lots of potential, most seem like they could just be direct ports from the Tiger Dashboard equivalents. The most exciting of these seems to be the mobile.radio, as it suggests the possibility that Apple may be looking forward to supporting streaming radio or hopefully, an FM tuner on the device.

Who wants to bet that the radio widget will only work on a WiFi connection?

  • XM Radio on the iphone

If you subscribe to XM, you can also listen to it on your computer over the internet. I
was wondering if you can listen to it over the internet on the iphone, or if that is
    somehow prevented.

    • You have to have Flash

Which iPhone doesn't support. You can listen to it, but the menus on the tuner don't work, so you have to switch stations entirely to see what's on if your Flash doesn't work.

  • Gimme, gimme, gimme

I can't wait for radio (internet or otherwise) comes to the iPhone.

I also want the iPhone to be able to identify the songs so I can bookmark them for
    later purchase on iTunes.

Come on Apple and music industry. There's so much money to be made through
    instant discovery and gratification.

    • Who said anything like that?

I don't think I was getting excited. I was just wondering if it could be done.
