MacBook Pro speed-bumps delayed

Summary: I was excited yesterday to report that Apple had speed-bumped the MacBook Pro notebooks to 1.83 and 2.0GHz but disappointed that they also moved my ship date back almost two weeks as a result. Did Apple just throw us a bone?

MBP-delay.jpgI was excited yesterday to report that Apple had speed-bumped the MacBook Pro notebooks to 1.83 and 2.0GHz but disappointed that they also moved my ship date back almost two weeks as a result. Did Apple just throw us a bone?

I ordered my MacBook Pro 1.83GHz on the day of announcement (January 10th) minutes after the Apple online store opened (11:02 AM PST to be exact). Apple's order status Web site said that my MBP would ship today (March 15) and be delivered by March 23.

Last night I received the following email from Apple:

We have upgraded your MacBook Pro from a 1.83GHz processor to a 2.0GHz processor at no additional cost! We anticipate shipping your upgraded order by February 28, 2006.

How can Apple on one hand brag that "The $2,499 model now includes a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo processor... and will begin shipping this week."

Then tell me in an email that my MBP will ship in two weeks? I ordered it in the first minutes of the first day!

So my question to you, fair reader, is this: did Apple know that the MacBook Pro orders were going to be delayed and throw us a bone (in the way of a few megahertz) as hush money? What order and delivery dates are you being quoted?

Luckily the 2.16GHz MacBook Pro I ordered yesterday has a ship date of February 17 and a delivery date February 23. Maybe one of my MacBook Pros will actually arrive in February?

Don't you mean February, not March? ... and mine is now scheduled
for delivery on Feb. 28 :(

  • C'mon Jason...

You have been doing this for a LONG time. Hell, I've been reading the PowerPage for what, 10 years?

When was the last time ANY Mac shipped on schedule?

It's a supply or QA issue. It always is, and it always works out.

    No suprises here.

    • my order says the same thing, so does everyones

everyone who pre-ordered has the same "ship by" date.

This is "ship by" not "ship on" which means they expect to get your MacBook shipped either on that date, or anytime before it.

    • I think it's a curse

First Apple gets their chips from Motorola, and Motorola can't
supply enough chips, or supply them quickly enough. So they
move to IBM. Same thing happens. So they move to Intel, and
apparently the same things are happening again.

  • Mine comes next week!

Ordered my MacBook Pro from an online retailer (macmall) back on
Feb. 6th. It was the 1.67 mhz version. Now it has been upgraded to
1.83 and will ship Feb. 21st and arrive around Feb. 23-24.
Although it is a week later than originally promised, I am happy
with the upgrade and willing to wait another week.

    • apple shipped...

apple shipped pe-orders of stock 2ghz machines yesterday, TONS of people got tracking numbers. Mine is a CTO machine because i wanted a 7200 rpm hard drive. Apple doesnt change you for product until its being ready to ship. I ordered mine on Janurary 10th, but finally got charged for it on Feb. 17th, which means it should be shipping out hopefully Monday or tuesday.. and i should have it before next weekend.
