Top 10 iPhone camera apps

By | March 2, 2010, 8:52am PST

Summary: Today on TECHLAND.com, Peter Ha picks the Top 10 Camera Apps for the iPhone including the popular Hipstamatic and Colorsplash. Do you use any third-party camera apps for the iPhone?

Camera Genius (App Store, $1.99) used to be my favorite camera app, but I eventually stopped using it in favor of the stock camera app that’s pre-installed on the iPhone.

Today on TECHLAND.com, Peter Ha picks the Top 10 Camera Apps for the iPhone including the popular Hipstamatic (App Store, $1.99) and Colorsplash (App Store, $1.99).

On the iPhone’s Camera Plus Pro app Ha writes, “If you’ve jailbroken your early gen iPhones then, yes, your device is capable of recording video, but that’s illegal. Heh. If for no other reason, you should purchase Camera Plus Pro just to have video recording on your Silverback or 3G. It’s just icing on the cake that it comes with all the bells and whistles you’d want from a camera app.”

The full list can be found here.

Do you use any third-party camera apps for the iPhone, if so, which ones?

Jason D. O'Grady

Jason D. O'Grady developed an affinity for Apple computers after using the original Lisa, and this affinity turned into a bona-fide obsession when he got the original 128 KB Macintosh in 1984.

He started writing one of the first Web sites about Apple (O'Grady's PowerPage) in 1995 and is considered to be one of the fathers of blogging. He has been a frequent speaker at the Macworld Expo conference and a member of the conference faculty. He also co-founded the first dedicated PowerBook User Group (PPUG) in the United States.

After winning a major legal battle with Apple in 2006, he set the precedent that independent journalists are entitled to the same protections under the First Amendment as members of the mainstream media.

When he's not writing about Apple for ZDNet at The Apple Core, he enjoys spending time with his family in New Jersey.

"Wobble".

I don't have the iPhone and I'm not saying this is the must-have-the-one-that-does-that killer app.

I use VideoPano a LOT. Easy to use and produces nice panos. In fact easier than Photostich but it only does linera panos, whereas Photostich does bigger stiches (Horizontal and Vertical together).
I like OutColour for the unusual photoediting style (Out of Bounds) and I have become a big fan of LOMO style photos. MoreLOMO and LOMO are good apps for this style. I use GorillaCam a lot for taking photos - easy and good interface - I even have the tripod for the iPhone. If it just had video capture like Camera Plus Pro....

A new version of the app was just released which uses the 4.0 API's to double the resolution of the camera. Seems like it actually works!
