Video: iPhone 4 custom ringtone bug

By | July 13, 2010, 5:00am PDT

Summary: A video clip of the iPhone 4 custom ringtone bug in action.

In my iLemon post about my iPhone 4, one of the particularly annoying bugs I noted was the custom ringtone bug.

Sometimes a custom ringtone will continue playing in a stuttered loop even after I answer the call. A garbled few seconds of the ringtone keep playing, over top of the other party saying “hello, hello?” The only solution is to hang up on them and call back. (I’ve also had trouble playing the Apple ringtones in Settings > Sound > Ringtone > Standard, they sometimes stutter and skip too).

Here’s a video of the i4 custom ringtone bug in action:

It only happens once in a while, but when it does, my i4 will ring and a snippit from a custom ringtone will continue to play in a repetitive loop. Forever. The fix is to either reboot the phone or to wake it from sleep.

One fix is to reboot the iPhone 4 every 24 hours. It’s a ridiculous requirement (what is this? Windows 2000 server?) but it definitely helps with iOS4 on the iPhone 4.

I can’t wait for the iOS4 update…

This is the power of the iPhone 4's magical multi-tasking in action.

The innovators at Apple have done what no other phone manufacturer had previously thought of... playing ringtones WHILE you're on a phone call!!

Sure, it seems crazy now but once it catches on expect every one else to follow.

Celebrate the intelligence and design genius that is embodied in the iPhone 4

... when someone excused the iPhone 4 bugs by saying "never buy the first gen of any product". I guess they don't understand what the 4 is all about.

Thats my thoughts exactly. Isn't the iPhone in its 4th gen now? Oh right its Apple, so the blinders are in full affect.

Not a problem because people don't use the phone for calls! Especially since its on AT&T, the iPhone is the phone with the most dropped calls.

Mine started doing this yesterday! I've had my iPhone 4 since launch, and it was only yesterday ( July 27) when I first experienced this bug! It is very annoying indeed!
Also, anyone having issues with Yahoo! email not pushing to your phone? I've had to delete my account and enter it again 4 times now! I reckon this are all software issues, so it should all be adressed in a future update. Come on, Apple, fix the darn thing already!
