Thousands, if not more, of Windows users cannot search for music in the iTunes store since the latest upgrade. Apple has not responded to requests for help and is instead blaming each individual user.

From a spirited thread on Apple's discussion forums:

I'm unable to successfully use the iTunes Store. The following error occurs randomly, though it most often happen when searching and power searching, the progress bar on top will just never stop and the error message will display after about 30 seconds. It sometimes occur when browsing and clicking on links (the page will not load).

Here's the error message :
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."

The problem appears to be server-side but Apple instead puts the blame on end users:

Dear xxxxxx,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting to the iTunes Store. I understand you receive a "network connection timed-out" error. I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections, which indicates that the issue is related to your Internet connection, local network, or your local computer itself.

The only fix is to uninstall iTunes 7.1.1 and re-install iTunes 7.0. I guess that Apple doesn't want Window's users money?

  • Funny but true!

"I guess that Apple doesn't want Window's users money?" Not the first time!

It's true! When Apple bought out eMagic, they immediately stated that the Windows version of the audio serquencer Logic would be discontinued in two months. Basically told thousands to go Apple or get lost.

  • iTunes 7.1.1.5 Windows

7.1.1.5 Windows XP, on company network
    Search works fine. No problem

(however, I have received some error messages from the iTunes store recently on Mac OS 10.4.9 - I get errors when searching for specific items even tho they are on itunes server. While other items show up with no problem at all.)

Also very often around 4 AM Dastern Daylight Time, the store is unavailable. Do they turn it off at certain unpopular hours for maintenance?

    • But iTunes doesn't stream music...

At some point I'm gonna wanna buy songs to keep, regardless of who from.

Rhapsody doesn't sell music to Linux users (only Windows).

  • No different than Microsoft...

They've bought at least two companies in recent years that producewd both Mac and Windows software.

They then discontinued the Mac software.
