Adobe clears the "Air" on Android Tablet at Web 2.0 Expo [video]

At the Web 2.0 Expo, Adobe Systems teases us with a "reference device" tablet that's running Google Android OS. It's not even a prototype - but even a detail like that couldn't curb blogosphere buzz.

There seemed to be a bit of confusion - and excitement - about an Android Tablet PC on display at the Adobe booth at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. Some blogs have gone out on a limb and referred to this unbranded and clearly not-ready-for-prime-time tablet device as an Android prototype.

The folks at the booth were quick to point out that the device on display is not a prototype of an Android tablet. Instead, it's a device that Adobe put together and threw the Android OS on top of as a way of demonstrating Adobe Air 2. (See video below)

Still, you can't blame the blogosphere for getting excited about seeing a couple of tablets on display at the Adobe booth. One, by Dell, was running Windows 7. Right next to it was one running Android. And given the remarks by Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch earlier in the day - yes, there was some Apple bashing going on there - it was no surprise that news of an Android product at the booth took off like wildfire.

For what it's worth, I looked high and low at the Adobe booth and couldn't find any Apple products on display - not that I expected to see an iPad.

The point, of course, was to show how Adobe's technology can be integrated into a good user experience on a tablet OS - even though Steve Jobs says otherwise. Lynch, this morning, said Apple is driven by business interests and wants to wall off the Web.
