Apple announces iPad event, March 7

Apple announces iPad event, March 7

Summary: Apple has said it will hold an event on March 7th -- a little over a week from now -- to announce the next-generation iPad tablet.

TOPICS: Apple, iPad, Mobility

Finally. We now know something about the next-generation iPad for sure. It will be announced in just over a week's time on March 7th.

The company remained tight-lipped over the announcement, indicating very little besides the date of the event.

As per previous invitations, little is given away by the invitation itself. What is seen, however, appears to be a high-resolution display.

CNBC this morning tweeted that the upcoming device would be quad-core and boast a high-speed 4G LTE chip. However, the logistics of doing so would require a far greater battery than is currently in the iPad 2. It also contradicts well-connected AllThingsD, a stable source of Apple news, and many others too.

It also claimed the event would be held in New York, rather than San Francisco. An Apple spokesperson confirmed that the event will be held in San Francisco.

  • 7" iPad?

    A 7" iPad on the 7th?
    • No...

      that is all...
    • 14"

Maybe they should wait to announce it until the 14th and give us a 14 incher.
  • Will order mine as soon as I can

    Can't wait!!!!

Oh, and the base model is $499...Loverock's $700 for an iPad is an outright LIE.
    • Who buys the low end

Apple is great at getiing you to buy a 3 or 4 G 32 gig model, just because you might use it.
    • Oh

And how do you know $700 is a lie? Work for Apple?
We can tell you are a fanboi.
Anyone who says anything negative against Apple should be sent to prison without a trial - right?
      • Based on Lovey's history

Based on Lovey's history of using the $700 price figure as the base from the iPad since the original was released I would say it's extremely obvious to anybody with a brain why he called it a lie.
    • Nope

Base will be $549 because somebody has to pay for those foxconn raises!
  • Well you can bet that a great many people will pay attention

to this announcement:). Even those who will later claim "No interest". Which is very funny that they had no interest but took the time to let us know. Then there are the iHaters who want to line up their arguments against the product. Their interest is much more intense than mine an admitted fan for they will pour over the specs with exacting detail to find what they feel is the killer flaw in the iPad 3 or whatever it might be called.

    • or those who simply

Don't care. We are out there, I've owned several Macs and a couple of iPods, Apple screws the faithful more than Windows users.
If you are a average user, buy an iOS device discover you have to update itunes, but wait you can't update itunes, you need to install Snow Leopard, which they don't sell, but first buy Leopard which they don't sell. If you have a 10 year old XP machine you can download itunes no problem if you have service 2.
      • Don't care?

So you care so little about it that you read the article then took the time to post. That sure sounds like somebody that doesn't care.
    • And yet you post on many a Microsoft article

to let us know you have no interest, as Apple's products fit your needs like a glove, is that not true?

      • Actually and usually I only go on MS sights to respond

to those who slam Apple. I own an XBox 360 and before that the original XBox. Not a fan of MS but not a hater either for I have posted my hopes that MS does prove to be a factor in mobile.

    • Competent?

It would seem you'll have to pass some sort of a competency test before you could purchase an iPad.
      • Competent?

@GeoffMichael It would seem you'll have to pass some sort of a competency test before posting to an online forum.
  • iPad3

Apple hadn't planned on making the announcement so soon, but last week an iPad three had been left in a pub in Cupertino, so they had to speed up the release of information.
