Box is stepping up its platform especially for business users with some new enterprise-grade security features designed to put these customers more at ease with their cloud storage.

The first three new features are designed to enable new permissions for sharing and accessing content from any device and any location. Here's a rundown:

  • Smart Shared Links: Enhances Box’s grab-and-share link feature to enable users to limit who can view a file or folder to only users within a company domain or to only collaborators within a specific folder.
  • Trusted Access: Box’s Trusted Access Management feature now tracks logins from mobile devices, desktops via Box Sync, and custom apps via Box APIs. IT managers can also limit the number of devices an employee can access from the same user ID.
  • Groups Active Directory Synchronization: For Box accounts that are linked to their company’s Active Directory (AD), IT admins can configure AD groups automatically populated within Box. Admins can also create new groups from these directories, adding and subtracting users within a Box group as they see fit. When users log into Box, they will be added to or removed from Box groups based on these groups.

Box has also teamed up with Intel on a pair of new functions for IT administrators to manage user permissions and group access through Single Sign-On and authentication.

First, there's two-factor authentication with a one-time password delivered via SMS. Then there's the integration of Intel's Expressway Cloud Access 360, which will streamline secure access to Box storage using credential managed by Intel's 360 solution. IT managers can use this to automatically leverage existing identities and enable Single Sign-On on Box's platform.

The Trusted Access, Groups Active Directory, and Intel Cloud Access 360 SSO Integration features are all available starting today. Smart URLs will be rolled out to all Box accounts over the next week.

Additionally, Box Business Accounts will now have 1TB of web storage (up from 500GB) at no additional cost.
