Cisco said Thursday that it will acquire Extend Media, which makes video content management systems, for an undisclosed sum.
According to the company, ExtendMedia, a privately held outfit based in Newton, Mass., will allow Cisco to deliver and monetize IP video via multiple screens.
ExtendMedia’s software will be part of Cisco’s next generation video architecture. The idea is that ExtendMedia’s software will allow Cisco to manage the video content lifecycle for service providers.
The deal is expected to close in the first half of fiscal 2011. Meanwhile, ExtendMedia will be lumped into Cisco’s service provider video technology group.
ExtendMedia’s primary platform is called OpenCASE, a suite that manages, publishes and monetizes video across PCs, televisions and mobile devices.
