Dell will announce a mini notebook on Thursday dubbed the Inspiron Mini 9.

The launch was detailed in an email from Box.net touting how it will be bundled with Dell's "highly anticipated Inspiron Mini 9." The Wall Street Journal confirmed Dell would launch a mini notebook following up on the Box.net leak. The Journal also noted that Dell's Mini will cost less than $400.

The leak isn't all that new as Gizmodo reported on the Dell Inspiron Mini last month and Engadget noted that the Mini was coming in April.

Box.net had been shopping around its role in Dell's "highly anticipated entrance into the ultra mobile computing category and Web 2.0" under embargo. Box.net didn't confirm much other than the name and the date and the fact that it will be bundled with the Mini.

  • About time :)

If they include XP and keep the price < $400, I'll get one for sure. Nothing against Linux, but all my work involves Windows and MS Office.

I actually have an EeePC with Ubuntu installed, sitting on a shelf gathering dust. :)

Well the price is OK. Its little cheaper then the Asus Eee PC 901, but the Eee PC comes standard with a 6-cell battery, 1.3 MP cam Bluetooth and 2 speakers in stead of 1. So I think the Dell Mini 9 cant be called an Eee killer (is there any yet?). I agree with Dell that an SSD drive is a better choice for a netbook then a traditional Hard Disk Drive.
