Firefox Home hits the iPhone: Looks handy

By | July 16, 2010, 6:32am PDT

Summary: Firefox Home looks like a handy app that could give Mozilla a foothold in the mobile and cloud markets.

Firefox has landed on the iPhone with its Home app, which gives you your browsing history, data and synching capabilities with your desktop.

The Firefox Home app puts Mozilla’s toe in the mobile waters. With Firefox Home, users can view Web sites in the app, open them in Safari and share them. Since Firefox Home works on the iPhone it should work on the iPad too even though Mozilla only mentions the iPhone and iPod touch.

In a video, Mozilla shows a use case where a woman starts to book a flight, but has to leave her house. From her car, she picks up where she left off via Firefox Home.

Here are a few screenshots:

Overall, Firefox Home looks like a handy app that could give Mozilla a foothold in the mobile and cloud markets.

This actually looks pretty handy ...

I'm glad Mozilla didn't go with the "man-in-the-middle" design of Opera for the iPhone. Something like this might drive me back to Firefox. I'll have to check it out.

I think this is much better:

Atomic Web Browser. There's a freebie and a $.99 version. You can sync your bookmarks from your desktop browser, have tabs, the list goes on and on ....... so much better than the stooopid Safari browser. Highly customizable and it ends up behaving somewhat like FF. I use Atomic on my iPhone and iPad.

FROM HER CAR?!
Tom007 19th Jul 2010
I saw the video too, and rolled my eyes.

Are we supposed to believe that she didn't have enough time to finish the task on her Macbook Pro, which would have been quicker both in terms of Internet connection and UI, but had enough time to pull over in her car to finish it on a mobile device?!

That video was bad judgment on Mozilla's part. There are THOUSANDS of better scenarios they could have chosen.

Nevertheless, it is clear who they are reaching out to with the video, isn't it?

The selfish, entitled, instant-gratification crowd definitely looks to extend the use of their mobile devices while in a car.

However, it's not a very "Smart Planet" that encourages people to do in a car that which is much better done elsewhere.
