Google upgrades personal search: Social silos persist

By | January 10, 2012, 8:56am PST

Summary: Welcome to your social networking silos. Google will pitch Google+ with its search. Bing will be Facebook friendly

Google made its search more personal with new features that can surface a person’s meaningful data as well as Google+ information.

Unfortunately, the personal search is hampered without Facebook results, which happen to turn up with Microsoft’s Bing.

Welcome to your social networking silos. Google will pitch Google+ with its search. Bing will be Facebook friendly. A little integration and shared feeds sure would be nice.

Google’s blog post on its personal social search goes like this.

  • Personal results that will have information just for you.
  • Profiles in search.
  • People and pages.

It’s all swell—as long as you use Google+. Obviously, Google is looking to have its social network draft off its search dominance. However, most of us want more social networks included.
