HP Enterprise Services renews deal with GM
HP Enterprise Services won a multi-year $2 billion contract to manage applications and infrastructure at General Motors. EDS, acquired by HP, was a long-time GM IT provider.
HP Enterprise Services said Wednesday that it won a multi-year $2 billion contract to manage applications and infrastructure at General Motors.
GM and EDS, the unit now known as HP Enterprise Services, have a long history together going back 25 years or so. GM's approach to IT is to outsource much of the day-to-day management of its infrastructure via multiple partners. Procter & Gamble and Shell also have similar strategies.
Under the new deal, HP will provide network, workplace, mainframe management, applications and systems integration services for GM’s operations around the world. HP already provides most of those services for GM.
Services will include:
- Support for desktops and mobile devices;
- Applications development and services for various GM functions such as manufacturing, supply chain and business services;
- A technology roadmap for GM;
- Network management, security and videoconferencing.
The HP-GM pact was renewed a year early.
