HP reportedly set to name Whitman CEO
Meg Whitman will reportedly become HP's next CEO--the eighth one since 1999.
Kara Swisher at AllThingsD is reporting that Whitman, former CEO of eBay, will be the next CEO and she won't have an interim tag. The deal to name Whitman CEO could fall apart, but looks like it's sealed.
Multiple questions surround the move. As noted previously, it's unclear that Whitman has the enterprise expertise to make HP run well---at least under the current strategy.
However, HP has been known to switch strategies before. Whitman will have to decide on whether to keep the PC business and how to shore up services.
Collins Stewart analyst Louis Miscioscia said in a research note:
Whitman has not run a company the size of HP, nor one focused on the enterprise, both of which are concerns that are made more important by the fact that HP is in need of a turnaround in many lines of business, not just a new strategic direction.
