IBM said it has acquired Emptoris, a cloud-based supply chain analytics company, for an undisclosed sum.

Big Blue said it will wrap Emptoris into its smarter commerce initiative.

Emptoris has 350 customers around the world and 725 employees. The company's verticals---consumer products, financial services, healthcare, telecom, utilities and manufacturing---match up with IBM's.

In addition, Emptoris' spend management software fills out the buy side of IBM's commerce efforts.

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter.

Here's a diagram outlining Emptoris' Suite V9, its flagship software.
