According to a story in the Dubai-based Gitex Times, Intel is clearly taking the WiMax demonstration it first did in Las Vegas to the world. Said the report, "Intel stunned show delegates yesterday with the amazing capabilities of WiMax as it carried out the first regional demonstration of the solution." Toward the end of the article, Gitex Times' Matthew Southwell reported that regional telcos such as Etisalat are interested in "anything that makes internet access faster." Between the WiMax demos that Intel has been doing (promoting a new form of wireless) and the recent (and sudden) recognition of the benefits of broadband wireless technologies (CDMA, EDGE, etc.) by notebook vendors, was WiFi was really the the right strategic bet for Google?
