Internal Microsoft video shows plans for next-gen gaming experience

Summary: The WGX (Windows Gaming Experience) team has some ambitious ideas for gaming across Windows, Xbox, and mobile. Check out this internal video that showcases some of those ideas.

SHARE:

While searching around the Internet to find information the future of the Xbox, I stumbled across an internal video dated May 2010 which showcases some of the WGX (Windows Gaming eXperience) team's ambitions for next-generation gaming between Windows, Xbox Live, and mobile platform. For those of you who are unfamiliar, WGX is an internal Microsoft team comprised of all gaming-related endeavors between all of Microsoft's platforms. Though the video is from 2010, this is the closest look we have had yet at exactly what WGX's vision is. Check out the video below and see what you think:

First off, it's all aboard the fail boat for the person who decided to use "P0wned" instead of "pwned" on that one part. ;) Anyway, this video really seems to tie together what we know about Microsoft's attempts to make gaming ubiquitous between all mediums. And as you can see via this LinkedIn job ad and this Facebook page, the WGX team looks to be pushing full steam ahead with getting their vision up-and-running. My guess is they are shooting for a Windows 8 release time frame with hopes to have everything neatly tied together. Check out some of what they have to say in that LinkedIn ad:

The Windows Gaming Experience (WGX) Team is a very passionate team embarking to create a new world-class gaming platform that comes alive in the presence of services and leverages the power of the PC to help define the next generation of Windows and Web gaming to 300 million potential customers. WGX team is realizing its strategy via the delivery of Windows and Web gaming solutions built upon existing available services (internal and external to Microsoft) as well as building as needed Azure-based services to enable this vision. We are at the early stages of defining and architecting and developing excitement around gaming in Windows and the Web. We have a highly visible company-wide charter to promote gaming and empower game developers to create compelling, immersive, rich experiences in Windows and on the Web. We are on a mission to make games a first-class citizen in Windows through our efforts and in collaboration with other groups across the Interactive Entertainment & Devices (IEB) division.

With that said, what do you think about the contents of the video and the description above? Do you see the WGX team succeeding in their vision, or do you think Microsoft should be focusing on something else in the realm of gaming?

    The serious question is? Are you willing to hand over your Credit Card/Banking Info over to Microsoft? I do not trust that info to anyone, let alone Microsoft, as I do not want mysterious charges showing up on monthly statements.

      @Rick_K
Do you have an iTunes account? If so, are you one of the 200M with a credit card on file?

        You can creat a iTunes account without giving your credit card info.

        That's my point. Unless you only use iTunes for ripping CDs, you really need a credit card to buy apps and music.

        IIRC, you even need one for the free apps.

        You can have an iTune account without handing over CC info. I mainly use Gift cards, which I pay cash for. I may use some of Apple?s products, but I will not give them my CC info.

        @dazzlingd
Yes! A lot flash games are moused based and hard to adapt to the fat fingers. Before you come up with a mind control feature, give us the mouse control. glass Shower Doors

        on the marketing prospective, this is such a good news "We have a highly visible company-wide charter to promote gaming and empower game developers to create compelling, immersive, rich experiences in Windows and on the Web. We are on a mission to make games a first-class citizen in Windows through our efforts and in collaboration with other groups across the Interactive Entertainment & Devices (IEB) division" at the higher pace of development surely more surprises are coming....

      I cannot think of a company I would trust more with my CC info. I would trust Apple just as much also.

        @Mythos7 Spot on with trusting Apple with your cc info, but with the amount of internet security these days I would trust any well known company.

      @Rick_K:

      1) Handing your CC to a store clerk or waiter in a restaurant is FAR more risky than using your CC at a reputable online store.
      2) You're not liable for fraudulent CC charges: Check your CC bill monthly (you ARE doing this, right?) and report any transactions that you didn't make.
      3) Get on with your life.

      @Rick_K
How reputable do you think any department store, gas station, mass transit kiosk is? Are you that paranoid?
Seem to recall people saying the same thing when online bill payment/banking started popping up, using cell phones to call your credit card company to check balances. If thats all your concern, its not much of one.

Plus, maybe you should get rid of the department store credit card and get something decent with fraud protection.
