It has been rumored that Facebook would be integrating Spotify somewhere into its social network. But regardless of the Facebook's announcement coming shortly, know this: Spotify is officially on its way to the United States.

Spotify hasn't released many details or made a huge announcement just yet, except for the following blurb on its international website, which basically confirms what everyone has speculated about for months:

The award-winning music service that’s taken Europe by storm will soon be landing on US shores. Millions of tracks ready to play instantly, on your computer and your phone.

Based on the product images included on the same page, we can expect to see Spotify support on at least three mobile operating systems (iOS, Android and Windows Phone) as well as desktop support.

Part of why Spotify has had such trouble opening up its digital music streaming service to IP addresses stateside has to do with copyright issues and pleasing the major music labels. It looks like those hurdles have almost been cleared.

Unfortunately, there isn't an official release date published yet, but anyone interested in finally sampling this service to see what all the fuss is about (or those who have been to Europe, sampled it and already know what all the fuss is about), can sign up on Spotify's website for email alerts.

Personally, I fall into the latter category, so I've definitely already signed up. Stay tuned for continuing coverage about Spotify.

In other Spotify news, the music platform is expanding its reach in the United Kingdom to more smartphones and TVs with new paid subscriptions via Virgin Mobile.

    Fab - Spotify is brilliant.

So good, Amazon should junk the rubbish that is it's dismal Cloud Music offering and just buy them up.

The Spotify Free is a good entry level too.

      @Fletchguy

To explain what it is I would like you to think like this. Think iTunes, with millions of songs. If you wants to travel and goes offline, simple chose "cache it" and its available in offline mode too. Its fast, really fast, and you dont even notice its streaming. Ontop of this, you get info about songs and artists AND like Radio-FM, examples of similar music style.

It?s a great software, trust me on that. Used Spotify for a few years now and very pleased with it.

@Fletchguy It's like Zune except with not as many features, and you don't get 10 MP3's per month. I don't think it integrates social networking as well, recommends music based on your tastes, or has any extremely cool artwork/design aesthetics either.

How is this compared to last.fm and Pandora?

@rcm0502@... The desktop and mobile apps are significantly better (do those two even have desktop apps?). There are also hundreds of dedicated Spotify playlist sites. Nothing compares in finding new music.

  • Check it out

I used this proxy euro server to check out spotify:
    http://freeeuroproxy.com/
At the bottom of the page you enter a URL. You can then browse the site www.spotify.com.

    To cool, I can't wait!

Curious. They say that Spotify hasn't arrived yet to USA for copyright reasons. This is exactly what they say about why Netflix is not yet here in Spain. So,I guess that "copyright problems" means that american music labels demands as much money in America as american TV networks demand in Europe. And that's why now we europeans have to pay for a service,Spotify, that was free before and why we can not yet legally watch american TV shows in streaming. Thanks, american labels.
