Motorola Mobility on Wednesday said it will acquire Zecter, a startup that delivers streaming digital media and synchronization technologies.
The price tag wasn’t disclosed, but the acquisition of Zecter bolsters MotoBlur, Motorola Mobility’s Android overlay. TechCrunch reported last night that the Zecter deal was imminent.
In a nutshell, Zector provides mobile access to music, video, photos and documents from various devices. The company has ZumoDrive, a cloud content repository, and ZumoCast, which streams that media to any device.
Motorola Mobility said it will use Zecter’s wireless syncing, desktop integration, video transcoding than thin-file technologies in MotoBlur. ZumoCast software will be suspended for enhancements, but current customers can continue to use the service. Motorola Mobility said it will also enhance ZumoCast going forward. ZumoDrive continues as is.
In a Zecter blog post, the company said:
